Soluble in water, the aqueous solution is Acidic ,and strong acid Release on contact Sulfur dioxide And generate corresponding salts. If left in the air for a long time, it will oxidize into Sodium sulfate ,Therefore, sodium metabisulfite cannot be stored for a long time.

Application areas:

Used in the production of hydrosulfite, sulfadimethoxine, analgin, caprolactam, etc.; used for the purification of chloroform, phenylpropyl sulfone and benzaldehyde. Used as a fixing agent in the photographic industry; used in the production of vanillin in the spice industry; used as a preservative in the brewing industry; rubber coagulant and dechlorination agent after cotton bleaching; organic intermediate; used in printing and dyeing, leather making; used as a reducing agent; used in the electroplating industry, oil field wastewater treatment and as a mineral separation agent in mines, etc.; used as a preservative, bleaching agent, and loosening agent in food processing.
